Do I Need Coaching or Therapy?
The basic difference between coaching and therapy is coaching focuses on exploring present problems and desires for the future, compared to the past exploration of therapy.
To date, I have worked with thousands of clients in the clinical, coaching, and community settings.
We need self-awareness, and insight to our emotional and mental challenges to make change in our lives.
A coach teaches clients new tools to explore and tackle the unconscious sources of problems, helps you develop confidence through encouragement, and demonstrates application and practice of the tools.
When I introduced the concept of shadow work in therapy, it seemed to be the missing piece to people's inner work, including my own, allowing a deeper look at the choices we've made, the patterns of negative thinking and unhelpful behavior that blocks balance in health, work, and relationships with others and ourselves.
Once clients understand the shadow and the tools for exploring it, many of them feel immediate relief, proving that some people just need a shift in perception of problems and understanding of the unconscious mind.
That being said, sometimes problems are related to underlying mental health conditions. If you have a significant trauma history that has never been addressed, or is unresolved, life coaching will likely not be a fit at this time.
